Top landscape locations in Ireland
It’s unbelievable, how one island can be packed with so much spectacular scenery that made me fall in love and revisit. Here are some of the top landscape locations in Ireland.
Most commonly known as the “Dark Hedges”, this tree-lined road was used in an episode in the early seasons of G.O.T. which was a major reason behind the shoot in Ireland. The locations used in G.O.T. were so gorgeous it was difficult not to visit them for ourselves. Note: this road is long and just one car, one person, or worse a tour bus, will end up in the image. I’ve waited and waited for a group, each taking turns to have pictures jumping in the middle of the road.
The northern coast oozes “photo potential”; castles, coves, harbours and natural formations (Giant’s Causeway), you name it has them all. Throw in sea fog, the atmospheric level goes off the charts. Add in a castle on a cliff, it becomes magical.
Without the usual crowds, we had the Giant’s Causeway exclusively to ourselves. As you can see, Peiyan embraced the natural basalt formations, being one with the landscape.
Some of you may recognise this spot, which showed up briefly in G.O.T. but the views from Mussenden Temple are breathtaking. For the next picture, I had to climb over the wall, to be on the cliff-side, for a better composition, something my wife will strongly disapprove of.
Of course, no trip to Ireland is complete without a visit to the famed Cliffs of Moher on the west coast of Ireland. Its slightly more than 3 hours from Dublin and just under 5 hours from Belfast, which makes for a popular day trip but oh, there’s so much more to see along the west coast than this if you can spare a few more days.
If time permits, stop by one of the many ancient stone circles in Ireland.
As you leave Cork, consider heading inland to visit the remarkable historic site Rock of Cashel. Inside, it feels like the Great Hall of Hogwarts, with the remaining walls
As you complete the round-the-island drive, you’ll end up in either Dublin or Belfast, depending on where you are starting or ending the journey. If you’re in Dublin, do visit The Temple Bar along Essex Street in the evening. Drinks or not, its a lively street with many drinking spots, heck, Ireland’s full of bar wherever you go, so it’s not limited to this street only. Had to stop by here for a picture on my first visit.
Still reminiscing the north coast, where we had the Giant’s Causeway all to ourselves. Can’t believe how lucky we are.
How can we visit Ireland without a round of Guinness? I had my first taste of Guinness in Londonderry (Derry) and I fell in love with the sweet creamy taste ever since. I’m glad I’ve found friends who share similar taste.
I’ve loads more ideas for the many photo-worthy (instagrammable) locations throughout Ireland. Like Choy and Peiyan, I’d love to customise and bring to life beautiful pictures for your overseas prewedding photoshoot, new friendship and unforgettable memories.
In 2023, we will be revisiting our favourite destinations in Europe and around the world. How does Turkey or Greenland sound? Who’s up for the majestic mountains of Banff, Canada? For more info.
